Dive into experimental design at Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven

Eindhoven is known year round for being the design capital of the Netherlands, but the city’s design credentials peak each autumn with the arrival of Dutch Design Week.

This year, over nine days (arguably even better than a week), more than 2,600 designers and inventors are descending on Eindhovento present their work and innovations at over 100 locations across the city.
Aiming to explore both the design of the future and the future of design, Dutch Design Week 2024 takes on the theme “Real Unreal”, asking: “What is real and what is not, and where do all of our very diverse perspectives meet?”
“Designers explore, question and challenge what we perceive as true. They help us imagine the unimaginable and make it more tangible. They find countless ways to use their imagination in combination with collective knowledge and varied experiences,” the organisers said in a statement.
More than 300,000 visitors are expected to attend the annual event, which is organised around five key missions that both reflect the needs of society and drive many designers: Thriving Planet, Living Environment, Digital Futures, Health & Wellbeing, and Equal Society.
Highlights include the Teunland 2.0 exhibition by Dutch designer Teun Zwets, who transforms discarded materials into sustainable furniture; Poetics of Prompting, which brings together 21 artists and designers to explore human-AI collaboration and communication in creating new forms of language; the Cooling Down the City project, which looks to tackle urban heat and even promises a touch of forest bathing; and this year’s Design Academy Eindhoven Graduation Show.
